Kikiwai – Toronto; Closed because of Rodents

If you have been downtown to check out the well-known Anime store to hobbyists and fans alike, you most likely were greeted with a dark store with a note containing a phone number and a bunch of papers on the floor slipped under the door.

Apparently, Kikiwai has been infested by rodents, and I was probably one of the first people to see this back on December 8, 2008. I believe they last opened on the December 7 as all of the notes are posted on December 8.

I went back again on December 18 to see if that has been cleared up… but apparently it was still the same. Only this time I came with my digital camera to take pictures. I posted them up on facebook…

I went for another visit again on January 8, 2009, and yes, it is still closed right now.

I hope that everything is fine with the manager and the store itself. I know for sure that they are one of the best hobby stores in Toronto that sells imported mangas. I hope they’ll be able to open shop again soon.

I’m still looking for Ga-Rei manga in Toronto so yeah… I would probably prefer to get the imports, rather than the licenced version from the US.

EDIT: September 5, 2009
I thought since the pictures are not accessible to everyone because you’d have to add me as a friend on facebook to see them, I’d upload them here for your viewing pleasure and to see for yourself what I saw on December 8, 2008 along with my captions on each of the photos I took that day.

    Yes, they are still closed! ;_;
    Went there Saturday, March 7th, and nothing’s changed. The merchandise is still there. Nothing has been moved. It’s just closed and the light’s are off. Power isn’t cut though because I could see they have a stereo that has been left on through the (now) months. The same pile of letters and mail is still there under the other side of the door when I checked other times as well. This sucks, man… What the hell’s going on? The website is offline as well.

    The owner is in either Japan or HK taking care of legal matters. The store is closed indefinitely.

    I spoke with the Kikiwai Staff at Anime North, which was on the weekend. They told me they closed that store and moved it to Hong Kong.

    Still closed as of May 28, there’s now a for sale sign on the front, don’t know how new that is.

    I missed this place so much cuz I bought lots of stuffs there like every issues of magazine, models, official books, etc, they haven’t touch or open up this store for like months, since I heard few people say that they are moving, at least there’s another anime store called Anime Xtreme. For some reason, the whole Chinatown Centre is going downhill after few or some store are moving to another place (specifically Pacific Mall), man, things has changed a lot these days, let’s hope for the re-open.
